Gendering Community Policing and Role of Information Communication Technology: A Case Study of Gender-Based Violence in Pakistan

Gender based violence (GBV) is a heinous crime that Pakistani society facing. To deal with this menace, both the government and non-governmental organizations have taken steps at various levels to improve police service delivery, competence-building awareness-raising on GBV, establish women’s shelters, development welfare units in district departments, open helplines. However, these initiatives are limited, scattered lack coordination. Our research aims understand how introduction of ICT might competence GBV coordination mechanisms dealing GBV. Using qualitative approach, we conducted in-depth interviews relevant actors involved process findings show deeply rooted complex structural phenomenon requires well-planned, well-coordinated politically driven strategy. While has potential stakeholder processes reporting, mitigating preventing access technology by rural women limited. It therefore important technological innovations take account contextual constraints opportunities.
